While the majority of coffee cherries grow with two beans inside, a random genetic mutation of around five to ten per cent of cherries form with just one oval or circular shaped bean. These smaller beans are sorted out through the farm’s processing plant, separated both due to their size and weight. Interestingly, the percentage of peaberry mutation is dependent on rainfall and heat – the higher the heat, and lower the rainfall, the more peaberries!
Please note:
- All our coffee beans are heat sealed at the time of roasting. If ordering ground coffee, in order to freshly grind the coffee beans to your requirements, the first seal will be broken on the top of the bag at the time of grinding, the zip-lock seal will be closed before dispatch. This does not apply to unground beans.
- If you are placing a back-order of this item, coffee may take up to 3 additional days prior to dispatch/drop-off of your order
